U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow says she has secured more than $100 million in federal funding for northeastern Louisiana since fiscal year 2022.

The Washington Parish Jail has the highest percentage of overcrowding of any jail in the state. Since taking office Smith has had a standing invitation for elected officials and journalists to tour the jail and see first-hand its overcrowded conditions. Smith it trying to have a new jail built for Washington Parish, and he has been seeking the support of public officials, as well as private citizens.
Congresswoman Julia Letlow announced last week that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has designated the Ouachita River as a U.S. Marine Highway, further unlocking the 605-mile river’s potential to spur economic development in North Louisiana. Letlow called for the designation in a March letter to DOT Secretary Sean Duffy, touting the river’s capability to facilitate commerce, reduce highway congestion, and move freight. The designation enables local agencies, industries and shippers to become eligible for federal infrastructure grants.
