MONROE, La. - Congresswoman Julia Letlow announced a legislative proposal meant to improve disaster relief programs for forest landowners.
Letlow introduced the Emergency Conservation Program Improvement Act in response to the 2023 Louisiana Wildfires that burned more than 60,000 acres of forest land.
The legislation adds on to existing programs within the Agricultural Credit Act of 1978 — the Emergency Conservation Program and the Emergency Forest Restoration Program (EFRP).
BATON ROUGE -- Woman's Hospital in Louisiana is now the sixth recipient in the state to distribute Maternal Health and Newborn Supply Kits.
These kits are part of the Maternal Health and Newborn Supply Kit program, a joint venture between the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Baby2Baby, a non-profit.
The kits can include diapers, wipes, formula, and breastfeeding pumps. The initiative launched two years ago targeting three states -- Arkansas, New Mexico, and Louisiana -- because of their poverty and maternal mortality rates.

Letlow won a landslide election to represent Louisiana's 5th Congressional District in 2020 but died of COVID before he could be seated.
His widow Republican Congresswoman Julia Letlow now represents the 5th District.
RAYVILLE, La. (KNOE) - UPDATE 5:23 p.m. According to Congresswoman Julia Letlow, the bill to rename the Rayville post office building in honor of Luke Letlow has passed the House of Representatives. The representative says the bill received unanimous bipartisan votes in honor of her late husband, Congressman-elect Letlow.
MONROE, La. (KNOE) - Tarver Braddock, the Neville High School student who tragically died in a deer camp fire last week, was honored at the U.S. House today (Jan. 11).
During a school trip to Capitol Hill, students from Neville met with Congresswoman Julia Letlow. Letlow shared her experiences and gave the students advice on how to find purpose after tragedy.
