Rep. Julia Letlow Files Consumer Price Information Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amid continued cost-of-living concerns, Congresswoman Julia Letlow today filed legislation requiring federal agencies to disclose the impact of any new federal regulations on consumer prices.
The Consumer Price Information Act requires federal agencies to publish a statement online and in the Federal Register any time they issue a major rule. The statement must be publicly accessible and detail how the regulation would affect what consumers pay for goods and services, taking into account the regulatory impact on energy, food, housing, transportation, health care, and insurance.
“My Consumer Price Information Act would increase transparency and make the government think twice before issuing a regulation that raises prices on the American people,” said Congresswoman Julia Letlow. “The Trump Administration successfully axed many Biden-era regulations that drove up costs and crushed American jobs. But Congress still must act to ensure that federal agencies consider the impact of new regulations on hardworking Louisianans.”
