Letlow Urges Amtrak Expansion into Northeast Louisiana
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Julia Letlow (LA-05) sent a letter to Amtrak President & CEO Stephen Gardner this week, urging the expansion of passenger rail service along the I-20 corridor in Northeast Louisiana.
“The proposed I-20 corridor will connect millions of people not only in my home state of Louisiana, but throughout the South. This is an opportunity to connect not only our cities but our rural communities and residents to the rest of the country through rail,” Letlow wrote. “I have heard from many in my district and state who are excited by the possibility of passenger rail returning to North Louisiana and have expressed great support.”
Letlow noted that the expanded rail service would provide Louisiana’s Fifth Congressional District affordable and speedy access to major cities such as Dallas and Atlanta and help spur tourism and economic activity throughout the region.
