Letlow: Senate Must Advance Save America Act via Talking Filibuster

March 11, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Julia Letlow is urging the United States Senate to enforce a ‘talking filibuster’ requirement to pass the SAVE America Act and send it to President Trump’s desk. The election integrity measure has yet to receive a Senate vote as Democrats block without having a real debate on the issue.

The SAVE America Act would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote and photo identification when casting a ballot. An illegal immigrant was recently charged with fraudulently voting in five presidential elections, each time claiming to be a U.S. citizen.

“Only Americans should be voting in American elections, but election integrity has stalled in the Senate,” said Congresswoman Julia Letlow. “The modern filibuster is blocking a real debate on preventing fraud in our elections. The Senate should advance the SAVE America Act by enforcing a talking filibuster, if that’s what it takes to secure our elections.”

A talking filibuster would require the minority to continuously speak on the Senate floor. Letlow said Senate Democrats should not be allowed to quietly block legislation that would protect election integrity.

“If Democrats want to obstruct this bill, they should have to stand on the floor and explain to the American people why they oppose proof of citizenship for voting,” added Letlow.

The SAVE America Act has already passed the U.S. House of Representatives with Congresswoman Letlow’s support. A recent poll found that 71% of Americans are in favor of the bill.
