Letlow Provides Update on Government Shutdown

October 1, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman and House Appropriations Committee member Julia Letlow today released the following statement after a lapse in funding to operate the federal government.

“The House did our job two weeks ago to keep the government open for the taxpayers it serves. I’m disappointed that Senate Democrats have chosen to needlessly shut down the government over unrelated political issues. While we are awaiting further information on agency closures, there will likely be consequences for our military families, farmers, and federal employees, as well as Louisianans dependent on the National Flood Insurance Program.

I’m hopeful that Senate Democrats will come to their senses and reopen the government, which will also allow us to continue passing fiscally responsible, full-year funding bills. The American people deserve better than partisan political drama.

In the meantime my office is open, taking phone calls, and assisting constituents with casework. While many federal agencies may have slower response times and minimal staffing, we will still work to advocate on your behalf.”
