Letlow Announces Congressional Art Competition Winner

May 21, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Julia Letlow named Anna Davis, a freshman student from Baton Rouge, as the winner of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for Louisiana’s 5th District.

Davis’ painting, “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” fuses the lively, festival-style traditions of Louisiana with the pride of America’s 250th anniversary. Having grown up in the district, Davis said many of the painting’s details symbolize the memories she made sitting on picnic blankets and watching parades go by.

“It is a privilege to highlight Anna and her artwork, as it symbolizes some of the most beautiful traditions in Louisiana where our communities come together,” said Congresswoman Julia Letlow. “I am excited to bring this painting to the Capitol and share it with others.”

“Laissez les bons temps rouler!” was chosen from a number of creative and unique entries submitted by students in the Fifth District. The piece will be displayed in the United States Capitol for one year alongside winning entries from congressional districts across the country.

“When I found out my art was selected, I was honestly shocked and really excited,” Davis said. “Representing Louisiana at the nation’s Capitol is such an honor. Louisiana’s culture is beautiful and unique, and I’m glad I get to be part of that.”

The Congressional Art Competition is an annual competition open to high school students from across the United States. Each congressional office selects one winner to display in the tunnel connecting the Cannon House Office Building to the United States Capitol, traveled daily by members of Congress, staff, and visitors.
