March 23, 2026

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Congresswoman Julia Letlow alerted anyone from Louisiana who happens to be in Mexico to heed a travel alert that was put out by the U.S. Department of State.

If you need help, you are encouraged to get in touch with the U.S. Embassy or, if you live in the 5th District, contact Congressman Letlow’s office at 225-952-1390.

Details about how to contact the U.S. Embassy in Mexico can be found here.

In the travel alert, it is suggested that anyone in the States of Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas not travel at this time.

The alert was put out because of the ongoing violence after the killing of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho.” He was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
