Letlow Statement on SEC's Expulsion Threat

September 9, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Julia Letlow, who represents Louisiana State University, released the following statement on today’s amended lawsuit from the Southeastern Conference seeking to expel LSU.

"The SEC has long set the gold standard for athletic competition, but now the league has reduced itself to targeting LSU with desperate threats of expulsion.

The NCAA started this mess with vague, unclear, and confusing rules. The result is unprecedented chaos in college sports. Now SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey is elevating the situation to embarrassing levels, seeking to upend the makeup of the SEC because two players who have never set foot on a professional field dared to seek clarity.

The SEC’s blatant targeting of LSU is nothing more than an attempt to distract from the league’s blunders and the NCAA’s failure to enact clear and consistent rules. Just like they won in court last week and dominated in Death Valley on Saturday night, no matter whom LSU competes against, they will win."
